In-house Graphic Designer (Maternity Cover)

Time Commitment: 3 days per week
Salary:  £35-55k full-time equivalent (pro-rated for a 3-day-per-week role)
Contract type:  Freelance (maternity cover), 9-12 months
Location: Fully remote, UK, Rwanda, Kenya

Brink is privileged to work on some of the world’s most interesting and important challenges in health, education and climate with partners ranging from globally recognised institutions like FCDO and Gates Foundation to small grassroots innovators across Africa, South Asia and the Middle East.

Brink is looking for an in-house Graphic Designer to cover the maternity leave of our current in-house designer and keep Brink’s design outputs moving at pace. The role of Designer involves providing design support across all of the Brink programmes. You’ll design across digital and print, support internal teams with day-to-day creative needs, and help deliver polished outputs for programmes, events, and publications.

You’ll be turning ideas into clear, visual outputs that demand action. A key value for design at Brink is accessibility: as we believe making complex information understandable puts power in people’s hands, especially for neurodiverse audiences, and when working across languages and geographies. Brink’s Behavioural Innovation approach is about designing for real-world conditions, so thoughtful, accessible design is central to our mission and the impact our work can have.

You’ll be joining a collaborative team and will work with colleagues who aren’t designers - so you’ll need to be comfortable translating briefs into clear, effective visuals and advising on what will (and won’t) work. The work is fast-paced and highly varied, so it would suit someone who enjoys working independently across multiple live projects at once.

The role

Projects:

>

Produce high-quality design assets across a wide range of project needs (graphics, data visualisations, publications, print materials, presentations, and social media assets).

>

Create brand guidelines for new programmes and projects, and work within existing brand guidelines to produce consistent designs and content.

>

Take work from concept through to production-ready delivery, with strong attention to typography, layout, and detail.

>

Contribute to the development of Brink’s own tools, IP and digital products. Beyond client-facing assets, working alongside strategists and developers to shape how ideas become tangible, real-world outputs, from concept through to build.

>

Design for web (page layouts, components, icons/illustrations as relevant).

Our brand:

>

Apply and uphold Brink’s brand and tone across outputs.

>

Build and maintain template libraries (e.g., slide decks, report layouts, one-pagers, simple design systems) to support Brink teams to create their own outputs while staying consistent with the brand.

Collaboration and workflow:

>

Partner with non-designers to clarify objectives, propose design approaches, and iterate quickly.

>

Manage multiple requests at once, prioritising effectively in a fast-paced environment.

>

Liaise with external suppliers/freelancers when required (e.g., print, illustration, specialist production), ensuring clean handover and quality control.

What we’re looking for in an ideal candidate

>

8+ years’ experience as a graphic designer in a fast-paced environment (in-house, studio, or agency).

>

Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design (or a related subject) or equivalent professional experience.

>

Excellent typography, composition, and information design skills (making complex content feel clear and easy to read).

>

Confident working from messy briefs and turning them into effective outputs.

>

Strong Adobe Creative Cloud skills (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop; Firefly or similar tools a plus).

>

Calm, organised delivery under time pressure.

>

Accessibility awareness (contrast, legibility, hierarchy; designing for diverse audiences).

>

Web design experience (familiarity with Webflow a plus).

>

Comfortable with evolving design environments and eager to experiment with AI tools and workflows, and collaborate directly with developers in live environments (e.g. GitHub) to bring work to life outside of Adobe.

>

Presentation design confidence (Google Slides) and template-building experience.
